Clearly Kosciusko Member Spotlight – The Barn 1880: Historic Venue

Monday, September 11, 2023

We appreciate and support all of our members. The Clearly Kosciusko Member Spotlight is a way for our members to highlight their organization or business and for us to show how much we appreciate their participation.

The Clearly Kosciusko member we’re shining the spotlight on this month is The Barn 1880: Historic Venue, a century-old two-level bank barn that has been newly renovated for use as a unique event space in Warsaw, IN.

About The Barn 1880: Historic Venue

Jon and Amanda Scroggs are the venue owners of The Barn 1880: Historic Venue, located at 2076 N. 100 E., in the heart of Warsaw. The Scroggs family moved from England in 1990 and chose to relocate to Warsaw; they can’t imagine living anywhere else.

They were drawn to the area because of its beauty, rich history, and a strong sense of community. In 2018, they saw an opportunity to create a space that celebrates both of these things and five years later, The Barn 1880: Historic Venue was born!

More About The Owners

Jon is a contractor and master carpenter who partnered with local industries and businesses to source materials and labor to renovate The Barn 1880: Historic Venue. While Jon completed the bulk of the restoration work solo over a period of several years, there’s a story and a local face behind each phase of the construction project.

From contracting with Warsaw Area Career Center welding students for signage and railings, to hiring local craftsmen to point and rebuild century-old stonework, to partnering with local tradesmen and building suppliers for electrical, plumbing, and climate control projects. The transformation is captured on their Instagram platform: @thebarn1880.

Amanda worked in the nonprofit field for many years before becoming an educator with Warsaw Community Schools in 2001. She holds a Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership and has experience in marketing and event planning. Amanda has enjoyed partnering with local families, local organizations, local corporations, and local nonprofits to offer a space to gather.

“We’re grateful that The Barn 1880: Historic Venue has quickly become a favorite spot for baby showers, bridal showers, birthdays, graduations, weddings, classes, and so much more.”

Connecting With Our Local Community

Not only does The Barn 1880: Historic Venue provide a beautiful and welcoming space for events, but it also gives back to the community. Jon and Amanda have made it a priority to partner with other local organizations and businesses to help the community grow.

With a new venue option in Kosciusko County, other industries in the wedding and event sector benefit too. When residents choose to celebrate local, Airbnb and local hotels, local restaurants and catering companies, local photographers and videographers, local hair and make-up artists, local DJs, local bakeries, and local event planners reap the rewards.

Celebrating local is a great way to support local businesses and strengthen our local economy.

Why Clearly Kosciusko?

“We are thrilled to be Clearly Kosciusko members and celebrate the incredible opportunities this county has to offer.”

What’s Next For The Barn 1880: Historic Venue?

As a small, family-owned and operated business, Jon and Amanda take pride in offering a landmark venue and feel incredibly blessed by all the feedback and reviews from guests.

In July of 2023, The Barn 1880: Historic Venue hosted its first annual community concert with two local bands: Don Bosco and Otitis Media.

The couple is planning a free community Fall Fest on Sunday, October 22nd from 2pm to 4pm
Amanda is also working with local Lakeview Middle School students to plan a free community Christmas in The Barn 1880 event on Sunday, December 3rd from 2pm to 4pm.

“We are thankful to live and work in a community that values tradition, history, and togetherness, and understand that a thriving community is one that works together. We’re proud to be  a part of Clearly Kosciusko.”
