Sharing The Spotlight: Forward Kosciusko County

Have you heard of FORWARD Kosciusko County? FORWARD Kosciusko County is a unique, countywide, collaborative effort to develop a bold and innovative plan for the continued and shared success of the communities within Kosciusko County.
So what does that include?
Kosciusko County, the Kosciusko County Community Foundation, K21 Health Foundation and local communities are joining forces to complete a one-of-a-kind update to our county’s Comprehensive Plan that was originally written in 1996.
In the coming year this initiative will be working with local residents, community leaders and organizations to:
- Discuss discuss local challenges
- Identify unique community features
- Determine how our county can best grow, evolve and improve in a variety of areas
What Is A Comprehensive Plan?
A comprehensive plan is a document created specifically to work as a roadmap for future growth and development over the next 10-20 years in Kosciusko County and within each of its local communities.
It’s purpose is to serve as a roadmap for effective decision making in regards to public and private development, public improvements and local quality of life initiatives.
The comprehensive plan will include:
- A snapshot of current local and county-wide conditions
- Visions for the future
- Recommendations including how to best achieve the vision and goals outlined
This extensive plan will provide detailed information and recommendations on how to improve and expand:
- Local and county-wide land use
- Government and fiscal capacity
- Public utilities, facilities and services
- Placemaking, housing, and transportation
- Agriculture, natural resources, parks and recreation, trails, and the revitalization of downtown areas throughout Kosciusko County
Working Together To Create A Vision
The most crucial part of this planning process’ success will be the enthusiastic participation from those of us who live and work within Kosciusko County.
There are a variety of ways you can help support FORWARD Kosciusko County and get involved!
You can also share your ideas through accessing the FORWARD Kosciusko County survey, interactive map, and ideas wall.
The community input survey will provide the project team with more detailed information related to the existing conditions within the area and the community’s future aspirations for development, amenities and infrastructure.
The survey should take approximately 5-10 minutes; however, you can spend longer depending on the information you are able to provide.
